Ground Tissue System
There are also two types of root systems. The tap root
system and the fiber root system.
The tap root system is a single, large, deep root. The fiber root system is
more complicated and involves branches of roots.
Roots serve to intake minerals and water and help with structural
support. They have meristem tissue similar to the meristem tissue of stems.
The root meristem is the region involved in growth that is located at the bottom of
roots.
The root cap protects the root meristem as it pushes through the soil.
Why do roots have root hairs? Root hairs increase surface area and thus increase a root's the uptake of water.
