Ventral Portion of the Skull

The palatine and maxillary bones form the roof of the oral cavity. The red arrow points to the suture lines that seperate these bones. The base of the red arrow is near the posterior edge of the hard palate from which the soft palate extends. The space seen on either side of the blue arrow is part of the nasal cavity which terminates posteriorly as the nasopharynx. The nasopharynx lies dorsal to the soft palate.
