Microbiology
is the study of organisms too small to be seen by the naked eye. The
human body contains ten times as many microbial cells as its own;
some microbes are considered an essential part of the human body.Other microbes inhabit
environments that humans consider “extreme,” such as superheated deep-sea
thermal vents, or salt-saturated soda lakes. BIOL 238 explores the
cell biology, ecology, and medical applications of bacteria, archaea
and eukaryotic microbes. |
