Ribonuclease A (golden ribbon) is an enzyme that chops up surplus nucleic acids in the cell. During periods in which ribonuclease is not needed, the cell produces a doughnut-shaped inhibitor molecule which locks the enzyme in a vice grip, rendering it inactive.
