Sorting the Bones of the Hindlimb (Anterior/Ventral view) |
Distal End
|
When trying to sort and orient the bones of the hindlimb it is important to orient them so that the bones from
the right side of the body are to your right. In order to do this, lie the bones with the anterior surface
up and the distal surface away from you as shown in the photo. The lateral malleolus of the fibula, the lesser trochanter of the femur, and the flattened surface of the tibia will all be oriented against the table. If innominate bones were included in the photo the crest of the ileum would be oriented toward the bottom of the screen, the pubis would be medial, and the acetabulum would be oriented laterally.
