How many of these muscles can you identify?
The movement of the humerus toward the ventral midline is the function of adductors. The arrows indicate the direction force is applied when the adductors (muscles 1-4) contract. The latissimus dorsi retracts the limb by moving it posteriorly along the long axis of the body.
Click on the numbers of muscles 3, 2, and 1 to see their point of insertion on the humerus. This order will allow you to proceed from the insertion of the superficial muscles to the insertion of the muscles that lie under them.
If you follow any links from the muscle insertion frames you can return to the muscles by clicking on the appropriate numbers in the image on the left.
