A Drosophila stage 8 egg chamber
The figure shows a developing fly egg (bottom) and its associated nurse cells. The nurse cells have large nuclei (DNA is stained blue). The connections between the nurse cells and between two nurse cells and the egg can be seen (red rings). The nurse cells provide material to the developing egg, material that will be used to support the early development of the embryo after the egg is fertilized.
