Beavers
and
other small warm-blooded animals
Rabbits, muscrat, beavers, and rats
of alien breeds live in the wetland environment on Altiod. They eat grasses
and other leafy vegitation that inhabits the moist fertile environment.
The animals that prey on these alien rodents are bears, Vampire beatles,
carnivorious plants, and especially the most vicious preadator of them
all, the Aligatorsnakes. Aligatorsnakes are the rodents most feared enemy
because of the incredible amount of rodents consumed by them. The rabbits
especially are an Aligatorsnake's easiest and tastiest meal. The rodent's
fertility rate is extreemly high due to the bountiful food sorces and the
need to reproduce constantly and in large numbers because their high death
rate. The alien rabits are the most fertile of the rodents. The rabbits
comonly have litters five times a year with 50 rabits in each litter. Because
of the Aligatorsnakes's unquenchable appitite for rabits, only 20 rabits
live to see their first birthday. Rodents, particularly the rats and beavers
get a lot of their food from the leftovers on carcases of deer, bears,
and other rodents. The alien rodents on planet Altoid make their homes
in the mud banks or old trees.
The loss of the rodents to the wetland
ecosystem would have harmfull effects on the envoronment, mainly on the
Aligatorsnakes. Aligatorsnakes and bears would loose an important food
scource of their diet. Because of the huge number of the rodents and their
nutritional value, they are a staple in most of their predator's diet.
Because of the many other animals that eat the plants, the extinction of
the rodents would not result in an overgroth of the plants. Over millions
of years of evolution, the plants on Altoid have developed a keen sense
how many of their consumers exist. When the predators of the plants decrease
in numbers, the plants knows to grow slower so they do not become out of
hand and take more nutrients from the soil that the soil has to offer.
Once the number of consumers increases, the plants will know to start growing
faster and increase their numbers. If the rodents were to cease to exist
the beatles would not be affected because they eat everything and would
have many other food options. The only organism that would be affected
at all by the loss of the rodents would be the carnivorous plants. Rodents
love the taste of carnivorous plants and eat them constantly. Because the
rodents reproduce so often they can pass the cells of the plant to their
offspring which eventualy are eaten alive by these palnts as well as their
parents. The carnivorous plants use the nutrients found in the body of
the rodents to nourish it. Once the rodent is dead, the plant will seed
itself in the carcas and start to grow out from the dead rodent. The rodents
are stuck in a deadly cycle with these plants. Without the rodents the
carnivorous plant would not propogate as often and their numbers would
decrwease rapidly.
