Reintroduction of the wolf began in 1995 in regions of North America as an effort to restore this endangered species. Reintroducing a top predator like the gray wolf (Canis lupus) has many associated biological issues. This paper will focus on some of these biological issues, including social behavior of the wolf and the pack dynamics of those reintroduced, as well as the direct and indirect effects on the surrounding ecosystem. The importance of the presence of this large carnivore in terms of the entire ecosystem and local communities will be investigated as well.
