The Virus
 

The virus caused viral cell fusion between any two infected life form which came into physical contact. Because the symptoms were so mild and the virus so quick moving that by the time someone realized they had been infected it was too late, they had already chosen their children's fate. The virus rampaged the earth in just about a year until it finally burnt its self out, leaving only very few “pure” life forms left on the planet.

    The true effects of the virus were not hinted at until the first generation A.H. was born and the true effects were not realized until the second generation of Hybrids was born. As far as we have been able to piece together in humans and animals that have two sexes the male sperm cells were affected and female pre-egg cells were effected. This means that the sperm of the males who were originally infected bore hybrid children and the female children of the women who were infected gave born to hybrid children. We assume this is because males are constantly producing sperm so the sperm produced after infection was hybridized while women have all their eggs from birth and the virus could only affect the pre-egg cells, thus hybridizing their daughter's eggs. While the virus itself lived for such a short time it was many years before the population had settled down and began to stabilize its self.
    While the virus was able to to fuse the cells of any living things, simpeler life forms were not generally able to reproduce significantly more complex life forms. For example while there were many instances of a human giving birth to a plant human hybrid there were only a handful of instances when a plant produced a human plant hybrid.  The Era of Chaos  INDEX
